Prior to the 2017 season, Team 6582, The Vestabots, was merely a dream. With the help of the Michigan Department of Education grants, and our generous community sponsors, the dream became a reality.
Our season began with a Quick Build event hosted by Team 2337, the Enginerds. At the end of the event, we left Kettering University with an understanding of the game and a moving chassis. The Enginerd's workshop really got our season off to a strong start, and we were thankful for the time and effort they invested in the event.
Throughout our rookie season, we shared many long nights and we learned a lot through the competitions. All the hard work turned out to be very rewarding and taught us many unexpected lessons. The build season provided many opportunities for growth and tested our resilience. Throughout the competition and build seasons, the team was determined to improve and never stopped asking what could be done better. As a result, our rookie season was filled with unexpected success and a trip to the World Championships.
At our 2017 Shepherd District Event, we were awarded the Gracious Professionalism Award and we were on the winning alliance, which allowed us to take home a District Championship. While at the Michigan State Championship at Saginaw Valley University, we received the Rookie Inspiration Award, Highest Seed Rookie Award, and we were the 5th seeded alliance captain. At the World Championships in St. Louis, MO we had a record of 8-6-0 and we finished 18th in our division at the end of regulation play.
